Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I arrange an appointment with you?
To arrange an initial appointment, please email me at:
Do you provide any out of hours appointments?
Yes, I offer appointments on Saturdays in addition to weekday appointments.
What are your fees?
The fee for individuals and couples is £110 per 50 minute appointment.
I am a registered provider with all the main private health insurance companies, including Bupa, AXA PPP, Aviva, Healix, PruHealth, Cigna, Vitality, Simply Health, Allianz Partners and WPA. I also provide supervision, assessment and therapy on request from other third parties, for example rehabilitation companies or charities (e.g. Walking With The Wounded).
How do I pay for my appointments?
For self-funded individuals and couples, the fee for the first appointment is to be made at least 48 hours in advance of the appointment. Subsequently, I will email an invoice following each appointment and ask that this be paid within seven days, unless agreed otherwise. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or BACS.
For people with private health insurance cover, or other third party funding arrangements, I will invoice them directly.
I have private health insurance, how do I use this to cover the cost of my therapy?
In the first instance, you can contact your private health insurance company to check you are covered. They will advise you on your policy, which may be a set sum allocated for therapy, or it may be a set number of appointments authorised.
Your private health insurance company will provide you with an authorisation code, which I will ask you for before we begin therapy. This enables me to invoice the insurer directly for your appointments.
What if I need to cancel and reschedule my appointment with you?
From time to time, due to circumstances beyond your control, I understand that you may need to cancel and reschedule your appointment.
If you need to make a cancellation, please ensure that you provide me with at least 48 hours notice. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, or not attended on the day without notice, will be charged at the full appointment fee, unless otherwise agreed.
Please note that insurance companies do not cover the cost of cancelled or non-attended appointments.
Will my appointments with you be confidential?
I adhere to strict professional and ethical codes of confidentiality. Details of your appointments with me will not be passed on to anyone, without your permission.
Access to your personal information is restricted on a 'need-to-know' basis only, i.e. for those concerned directly with your care. For example, your G.P., Psychiatrist, or another health professional, who may have referred you to me. In these circumstances, it may be helpful for me to communicate with your referrer about our work together.
If I am concerned that you are at risk of harming yourself, of causing harm to others or are at risk of harm from another person, I may need to share information with a trusted close contact of yours, or another professional. I will discuss this with you before speaking with anyone else.
Your information will always be held securely. Therapy related materials are kept in a locked filing cabinet. Email communication is sent and received through ProtonMail, which is automatically protected with end-to-end encryption.
What do I do if I need help in a crisis?
Unfortunately, I am not able to provide an emergency or crisis service.
You can make an appointment with your G.P., or telephone the G.P. surgery out-of-hours service, if you need help outside of office hours. If you already have contact with an NHS mental health team, you should have been given a care plan. This will contain details of who you can contact.
If you require urgent assistance, you can call 111 and select option 2, to speak to the 24-hour urgent mental health helpline.
Please avoid visiting hospital A&E (Accident and Emergency) departments unless you have a life-threatening emergency. 111 option 2 can connect you to mental health crisis services.
If anyone is at serious risk of harm, call 999 and ask for the police.
If you want to talk to someone in confidence, other than your family or friends, you can contact The Samaritans by telephone: 116 123 or by email:
